Blepharoplasty San Diego

Blepharoplasty (also known as eyelid surgery or eyelid lift) is a surgical procedure that refreshes the appearance of your upper face by reducing bagginess from lower eyelids and excess skin from the upper eyelids. Blepharoplasty is often used to modify the area of the eyes for aesthetic and cosmetic reasons. An eyelid lift can also improve sight in older people when their upper eyelids sag and cause problems with their vision. This surgery can be done at the same time as other procedures, including forehead lift, filler injections and laser resurfacing.

Am I a Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

The eyes are the first areas on our face that show the effects of aging. Good candidates for an eyelid lift are men and women beginning in their 30s who are in good physical health. The aging process occurs in a highly individualized way depending on our genetic inheritance, lifestyle and habits. Dr. Malone will listen to your particular needs and provide information about the options for treatments that will be best suited to preventing and reversing the signs of aging. Patients should have realistic expectations of their results. During a consultation with Dr. Malone, she will determine if this procedure is the right choice to address your needs.

What are the Risks?

Upper Eyelid Lift Surgery

This procedure is designed to refresh the upper eyelids, address the thinning and crepiness of the skin in your upper eyelid and create a smooth lid without any excess wrinkling or “hooded” skin. An upper eyelid lift surgery can be done with no general anesthesia and performed with local anesthesia numbing injection only.

The upper and lower eyelids can both be addressed in a minimally invasive manner using only local anesthesia or a twilight sedation if you prefer. The upper lid procedure is performed by concealing a small incision in the natural crease of the eye. The procedure for the lower eyelids can be performed in a variety of methods, including making a small cut inside the lower eyelid or along the eyelash margin.

Our eyes are one of the first areas to show signs of aging as we lose the wide-eyed appearance due to changes in the upper and lower eyelids. The upper eyelid becomes heavy, with crepe-like thinning and sagging of the skin. The lower eyes are marked by dark circles and bags under our eyes. Our patients in San Diego often tell us that their friends and family think they look tired, even when they had a full night of rest! Changes in the eyes can result in an appearance that looks tired or angry aging you beyond your years.

The philosophy of our practice is to restore the twinkle in your eye from your youth. Dr. Malone uses minimally invasive surgical techniques to refresh your eyes and get rid of the dark circles and bags under your eyes. There are opportunities not to have any incisions made on the skin to refresh your eyes and restore the smooth transition between your eyes, eyebrows and cheeks. You can definitely use an eyelid lift if you are no longer able to cover up your dark circles with concealer or wear eyeshadow because your upper lids have become saggy.
